We construct and manage asset allocation portfolios for more than a million accounts.
Strategic Advisers is looking for an Investment Manager to join the Integrated Portfolio Engineering team in our Denver, Colorado office. The Integrated Portfolio Engineering team utilizes technology and quantitative investment techniques to scale our investment process across both taxable and tax exempt portfolios with a mix of single and multi-asset class strategies, investing in a range of securities, including stocks, bonds, ETFs, and mutual funds. The team constructs and trades in excess of a quarter million customized portfolios. The candidate will be part of a dynamic team environment managing overlay and Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) management strategies with a goal to improve returns (after-tax when appropriate) while controlling risk. You will also play a role in SAI's next generation of managed account strategies which include multi-account investment management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage individual client portfolios consistent with Strategic Advisers' investment philosophy and the individual portfolio parameters and objectives of each client.
  • Generate superior after-tax returns using various tax management strategies and risk tools.
  • Perform portfolio analysis using proprietary and non-proprietary software and use the results to further improve the returns of the portfolios.
  • Review and thoroughly understand internal analyst research on individual securities, ETFs, and mutual funds to incorporate into investment decisions.
  • Gain full understanding of our portfolio construction process as well as keep fluent in all market and fund analyst research.
  • Dynamically adjust optimization settings to ensure client portfolios are aligned with our investment exposures.

  • Monitor and carry out fiduciary responsibilities with a high-level of integrity.
  • Experience and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in finance, accounting, or economics. Graduate degree is a plus, as is education in a technical or engineering field.
  • Existing or progress toward CFA, CPA, or CFP credential.
  • Minimum of 3 years of meaningful experience in research, portfolio management, or trading. Experience with SMA/UMA/UMH investment management a plus.
  • 7 years industry experience


Skills and Knowledge

  • Formulate and implement investment strategies based on market movements, tax code changes, trading, systems improvements, investment choices, etc.
  • Deep understanding of portfolio construction, portfolio theory, quantitative portfolio construction techniques.
  • Solid understanding of quantitative portfolio construction techniques in a taxable environment.
  • Proficiently skilled with SQL, R, Spotfire, Tableau, Northfield, Axioma.
  • Substantiated ability to prioritize large workloads while adhering to critical deadlines.
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced environment with an adaptable skill set, creative analytical skills, and the ability to multi-task.
  • Extraordinary attention to detail, as well as premium analytical skills that allow for independent discernment and high conviction reasoning while abiding by significant time constraints.
  • Remarkable ability to work effectively in a small team with a high level of teamwork.
