Hedging Consultant

Chatham Financial

Job Posting
Jul. 30, 2018

Chatham Financial is an independent financial risk management firm helping clients overcome common yet complex capital markets challenges. Chatham works with over 2,000 clients globally, providing advisory and technology solutions to Corporations, Financial Institutions, Private Equity and Real Estate companies. Since its founding in 1991, Chatham has hedged over $5 trillion notional, helping clients understand and use debt and derivatives as a critical piece of their financial strategy. Chatham is a multiple bottom line firm committed to delivering trust and transparency in the capital markets.

As a purpose-driven organization, we are committed to making a positive impact for our clients, our colleagues, our communities and the capital markets at large. We are an employee-owned, view-neutral services firm, with no affiliation to any financial institution allowing us to serve as independent advisors. Chatham has worked hard to create a distinct work environment that values people, teamwork, integrity and client service. We always strive to do what is right, just and fair, even when no one is looking. We would rather be governed by principles than rules. We believe leadership should be gained through influence and personal character, not by title or tenure. As a result, we have a non-hierarchical, team-oriented organization that is highly collaborative.

The Role

The Global Real Estate (“GRE”) team is seeking an additional hedge advisor to join the Denver MST team. The role is dynamic and fast-paced. The team member will gain a thorough understanding of derivative products and markets. Learning takes place alongside experienced consultants in an apprenticeship-style format. Success in this role will require you to:

  • Be inquisitive, self-starter, and team player
  • Become familiar with pricing models and generate indications for clients and prospects
  • Prepare client analysis
  • Read, interpret, and analyze loan documents
  • Prepare and review transaction documents for legal and regulatory compliance
  • Educate and advise clients and industry stakeholders
  • Assist with client and market research, as well as prepare client deliverables
  • Collaborate across GRE to identify hedging and non-hedging solutions
  • Execute trades on behalf of clients
  • Build rapport with clients to identify new opportunities

Initially, you will be trained (or further trained) in interest rate and foreign exchange hedging mechanics and pricing, followed by client advisory, deal structuring, terms negotiation, and execution of hedges. As you grow in experience, you will bring value as a relationship manager, participating in all aspects of hedging strategy and transaction execution for a client while growing your expertise in capital markets.  You will partner with colleagues in other service areas to identify additional client needs and provide comprehensive solutions.  Our most experienced team members take on responsibility for a client sector or service, and are involved in business development.

GRE offers the opportunity to continue your education with online courses through NYU School of Professional Studies. We also encourage team members to explore CAIA, CFA, FRM or equivalent programs.
